Far East rainmakers worked quite
differently from those in our wild west. Arriving at a drought-stricken
village, the rainmaker would go alone into a room and get right
with himself (herself). When rightness arrived, so did the rain.
Here is a “rainmaking” practice for you to explore.
Whether you use it to center, to explore a mystical sense of “Self”,
or to shift into the healing presence to work with clients, you
will find that this is a profound practice.
Go slowly as you learn. Soon you will “shift” in the
lowering of an eyelid.
Let’s begin. Take several slow breaths. Experience the cool,
dry air moving in and warm, moist air moving out and notice their
contrast. Slowly, step-by-step, feel your hands, your feet, and
then all of the aliveness within your body. You are now sensing
your energy body in all its vibrancy. (Among many other benefits,
wherever your attention goes; your immune system activates.)
Again, slowly, step by step, image and sense your attention
moving to the corner of the room, in front of you, behind, above,
and below. Bring your awareness back to your body. Feel and contrast
where outer meets inner at your skin. Don’t label anything—just
experience it. With a lighthearted feeling of playful exploration,
notice how differently each area feels. Notice them all at once
in global awareness.
Now slowly, step by step, image and sense each of your seven
energy centers; the tailbone area, lower belly, solar plexus,
heart center, throat, forehead, crown. Sense the contrast of
the centers with each other.
Now image and sense your attention moving deeply within to
your depths. Sense and follow the upwelling through the heart
center to the full heights. Then follow the down pouring. |
Focus on the heart center to image
and sense the two-way flow. Reach out your left arm as you move
your attention through it to the far left. Keeping it there,
extend your right arm, and move your awareness to the far right.
Feel your breadth. In the same manner, move your awareness forward …then
backward. Notice, as a whole, the vast sphere of which you are
the center and the circumference.
Bring your hands together at the heart center and experience
the mudra of Namasté and/or Prayer.
From your/our vastness, invoke the attributes of the heart
center—compassion,
innate harmony, the healing presence, and unconditional love.
Sense the vastness… the silence… the stillness. Notice
that you are embraced in peace.
Explore how this space breathes you—vitalizing and informing
you. You are now centered in the ground of Being.
We’ll finish with the use of a metaphor. You’re at
the water’s edge; you can conceptualize it or experience
it. To “know” water—plunge on in. In the same
manner, within the center of your vast sphere, plunge in using
a focusing question, “What is it that is right now aware
of my moving attention? Explore what’s here, don’t
conceptualize.
“What we are looking for is
what is looking.” ~ St. Francis of Assisi
Imagine maintaining this shifted state as you open your eyes
and the visual field floods in. See how long you can experience
this centered state as you go about your day.
